A CALLOUS thief stole a 95-year-old woman’s purse in Coventry after claiming to be selling items door-to-door.
The bogus caller said he was offering housewares for sale as part of a prison-release rehab scheme and asked for a drink.
When her back was turned he took the purse.
Officers said doorstep scammers often targeted the homes of elderly people and urged residents to speak to older family members, friends and neighbours to ensure they were aware of distraction thefts and did not fall victim to them.
