Police officers handed top award for helping Balsall Common man

Coventry Editorial 26th Nov, 2019   0

POLICE officers who ran to help a man attempting suicide have been commended for their selfless actions.

PCs Andrew Blythe and Gary Phillips were called to reports of a man trying to kill himself at a house in Balsall Common in May last year.

On arrival they found the man trying to leap out of a first floor window and bleeding heavily.

Without fear for their own safety, the pair pulled him back inside the flat and used towels to stem the bleeding until paramedics arrived.

The wound was very deep and the man lost a severe amount of blood, but thanks to the actions of our undaunted PCs, he survived.

Their life-saving efforts have been recognised with a Chief Constable’s Award and a Royal Humane Society certificate of commendation.
