Coventry Editorial 22nd May, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

FOOTAGE has been released of a group of Coventry clubbers after a young man was attacked with a bottle after he defended his female friend.

The trouble started inside the Scholars nightclub late on Friday, April 3, when the 19-year-old victim was enjoying a night out with a group of friends.

The party were on the dancefloor when an unknown man kept passing the group and inappropriately touching one of the girls.

Later in the night, at around 1.30am on April 4, the girl spoke to the man and threw a drink over him.

The man then grabbed a bottle and turned on the group.

He was joined by several other young, white men ? one of which hit the girl’s 19-year-old male friend with a beer bottle, causing a facial injury above his eye.

PC Jag Singh, from the violent crime team of Force CID in Coventry said: “We want to hear from anyone who was in Scholars in the early hours of Saturday, April 4 and who saw this group or who knows who they are.

“The main offender repeatedly approached one of the girls in the group and that’s what led to the escalation of violence ? however the teenager who ended up with the injury was not greatly involved but ended up needing hospital treatment.

“We’d urge anyone who can identify these men to contact us as soon as possible.”

The main offender is described as a slim, white male in his late teens to early 20s, around 5ft 11in tall, with short blonde cropped hair that was spikey on top, and wearing a light blue denim shirt.

Anyone with information should call the violent crime team of Force CID in Coventry by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
