Police warning after four burglaries in Westwood

Coventry Editorial 13th Jan, 2023   0

RESIDENTS in Coventry’s Westwood ward have been warned to be vigilant after four burglaries in the area.

The raiders struck in Alan Marcel Close, Broad Lane, Nailcote Avenue and Walsall Street and a theft from a vehicle also took place in Nailcote Avenue.

People are being urged to ensure all their doors and windows are locked and that valuables are removed from vehicles.

The police team for the area has conducted knife sweeps at Prior Deram Park and in local wooded areas and has visited local businesses to ensure they were having no issues.

Police have reported some anti-social behaviour in Prior Deram Park and the nearby new housing estate which has led to officers stepping up patrols there.

There is an active StreetWatch team in the area and anyone wanting to join can email [email protected] for more information.

StreetWatch patrols see volunteers walk around their neighbourhoods to provide a high visibility presence in a bid to reduce crime and make potential perpetrators think twice about committing offences.

Residents who feel they have problems with speeding motorists in their area can set up a Community Speedwatch scheme – each one needs just two to three volunteers who work with local neighbourhood officers to monitor vehicles.

Speedwatch sessions take just an hour and has proved an effective way to stop motorists flouting the law.

Anyone interested can email [email protected] for more and to put themselves forward.
