Poppies adorn more than 400 West Midlands police cars in Remembrance Day tribute

MORE than 400 police cars across the West Midlands have been adorned with bright red poppies in tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.

The stickers – which feature a wartime aeroplane to mark 80 years since the Battle of Britain – have been displayed on a range of police vehicles ranging from response to traffic, to firearms and dog unit cars ahead of Remembrance Day on Wednesday November 11.

The commemorative stickers were organised by PC Gaz Phillips, from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG), who is back at work after being seriously injured on duty last year.

It is the third time Gaz has organised the tributes, and he is also helping to raise money for the Royal British Legion by selling ‘Perry Bear’ poppy badges to police staff. Perry Bear is the mascot of CMPG.

He said: “I wanted to do something to help raise money at a time when most of the usual collections can’t take place due to coronavirus restrictions.

“The RBL is a cause close to my heart as my granddad was in the army during World War II and did a lot to raise money for the Poppy Appeal when he was alive. All the profits from the badges will go to the RBL 2020 Poppy Appeal.”
