Popular LGBTQ+ bar The Yard set to close

Coventry Editorial 10th Feb, 2023 Updated: 11th Feb, 2023   0

COVENTRY’S popular LGBTQ+ bar The Yard will close as part of the City Centre South regeneration.

The bar has been open for the past six years but confirmed on social media it would shut in the spring, although opening times would remain the same until then.

Although no specific moving-out date has been announced as of yet, bosses at The Yard said the expected to leave towards the end of May.

As well as running as a bar, the venue also supports charities and community groups including Coventry Pride, Myton Hospice and LGBTQ+ youth charity Prism.

It also hosts free, twice-monthly coffee mornings at the venue.

Owners are looking to independently seek out potential venues and negotiate with landlords to secure the Yard’s long-term future as soon as possible.

The Litten Tree pub was also set to close due to the City Centre South regeneration but closed earlier than needed on Sunday due to rising electricity costs and reduced footfall.

The LTB showrooms’ free art space, located upstairs, will close on February 18 unless it could gain an extension until the City Centre South regeneration necessitates an exit.

To commemorate the last six years, regular visitors have been asked to send in their fondest memories of the Yard.
