YOUNG peoples organisation Positive Youth Foundation joined forces with the city council and the International Children’s Games (ICG) this summer.

The collaboration aimed to bring entertainment to ICG 2022 while also providing opportunities for local young people.

The ICG was hosted by Coventry between August 11 and August 16.

The Youth Foundation ran a glow-in-the-dark evening 3 x 3 basketball session in Broadgate as part of the Commonwealth Active Communities Funding through Sport England.

The session took place on the Commonwealth Games courts that the ICG athletes were competing on.

Positive Youth Foundation organised this for their youngsters and passers-by could also join in.

Some of Positive Youth Foundations’ young people also performed in the Games Village, where they were tasked with getting athletes dancing in the Piazza after their sport had finished for the day.

They also sponsored over 2,000 branded bags for all ICG 2022 athletes, coaches and staff.

Coventry City Council deputy leader Coun Abdul Khan said: “It was a pleasure to work with the Positive Youth Foundation on the International Children’s Games.

“It was great to see some of their very talented young people performing for the athletes.

“It created the perfect atmosphere for the athletes to be in the Piazza and meet new people and the glow in the dark basketball was definitely a highlight of the Games.”

Positive Youth Foundation CEO Rashid Bhayat added: “As a local charity that has been working with young people for many years, we were honoured to be one of the event sponsors, as well as provide activities for young people to enjoy.”
