Primary school places allocated to Coventry children

Coventry Editorial 17th Apr, 2020   0

THE ADMISSIONS team at Coventry Council has allocated primary school places ahead of classes resuming in September.

The council said nearly every child in Coventry will join a primary school of their parents’ choice.

It added 99 per cent of parents making an application for their child have been given a place in one of their three preferred schools, with 94.4 per cent going to their first-choice school.

This year 4,081 parents made an application (91 more than last year) with slightly fewer places available.

Coun Kevin Maton, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “It is excellent news that even with a decrease in places available, almost 95 per cent of parents can celebrate their child getting into the school of their choice, with even more getting at least one of their three preferences.

“Congratulations to the admissions team for their hard work and good luck to all those young children about to embark on their school lives.

“I want to thank children already at school, and of course their parents/ carers and teachers, for dealing so incredibly well during the disruption of Covid-19. It will be great to see them all back in the classroom, when it is safe, and getting the most out of the learning environment.”

Coventry council added: “Thirty-nine applicants have been offered their nearest school with a place available as we were unable to offer a place at the school(s) they requested. These are parents who typically did not apply for their catchment area school or only listed one school.

“82 per cent of parents applied online so will receive emails or will be able to access their account to view their offer.

“Parents/Carers who applied via paper applications will receive offer letters posted out by second class post.

“If parents are refused a place they can check details online about the appeals process at coventry.gov.uk/schooladmissions and will have until 14 May to register an appeal for the majority of schools, with a later date of 22 May for all Church of England School.”
