A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed for 26 weeks after stealing nearly £1,000 worth of goods from Nuneaton.
John Burnham stole a total of £998.56 from shops over nine thefts in September and October.
This included £441 worth of razors and numerous items of meat, clothing, alcohol, coffee, cleaning products, and candles.
In interview, Burnham admitted to a drug misuse problem being the reason for the thefts.
John Burnham, 25 of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for nine counts of shop theft in Nuneaton and was also required to pay compensation of £150.
Sgt Fern Spellman of Patrol Investigations Unit said: “Burnham stole to fund a habit and was caught over and over again due to the diligence of shop staff and the use of in-store security systems.
“He had indicated that he would be open to receiving support but continued to offend – we hope that during his time in prison he will take this opportunity to reassess and find the help he needs.”
