A PROLIFIC thief from Coventry has been jailed after a spree of shop thefts in the city.

Luke Sargent, 27, of The Greenfield, has been jailed for 16 weeks after he pleaded guilty at Coventry Magistrates Court.

Sargent was caught stealing items from Warwickshire Retail Park on a number of occasions.

He admitted being responsible for the series of thefts which took place between December 2024 and March 2025.

He stole items including electronic goods and razor blades worth several hundred pounds.

Sargent was arrested on March 30, having been identified by officers investigating a theft at the retail park.

He was spotted on CCTV entering one of the shops, putting an item in his bag and walking out without paying.

Sargent was arrested and charged a short time later.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We have been keeping up the pressure on prolific thieves in Coventry, with dozens of successful prosecutions in the last 12 months.

“In addition to custodial sentences, we also look to apply for Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) which give our officers greater power to ban known offenders from specific locations.

“If found in these areas, they can be arrested for breaching their CBO and brought back before the court.

“We rely on information from the public to tell us where and when prolific offenders are targeting businesses.

“Reports from the public help us build a clearer picture of where and when to target our patrols and proactive operations.”
