A PROLIFIC car thief has been jailed after a spate of car key burglaries in Coventry.
Shane Jackson was caught hiding in a bed when Coventry Police raided an address in the city last November.
The 26-year-old has now been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to a number of burglaries and car thefts.
Officers began investigating a series of thefts and attempted burglaries in Finham throughout September 2025.
Several people recorded Jackson attempting to open their front doors so he could steal their car keys.
On two occasions Jackson was able to get inside and steal car keys, but one of the victims had an airtag on his keys which allowed him to trace their location.
Doorbell camera footage from addresses across the area was examined by our officers, who were able to identify Jackson as a suspect from his clothing and his distinctive limp.
After several weeks evading capture, Jackson was found hiding inside a bed by officers during a warrant.
Having been arrested, he did not offer any explanation or deny his involvement in the thefts, refusing to come out of his cell to be interviewed.
Jackson was charged and remanded in November and jailed in February at Warwick Crown Court.
He pleaded guilty to two burglaries, two attempted burglaries, four vehicle thefts and a single charge of handling stolen goods.
Det Sgt Jay Aston from Coventry CID said: “Burglary is a deeply invasive crime which leaves victims feeling unsafe in the one place they should feel safest – their homes.
“The volume of offences Jackson committed in a single area caused significant distress to the victims and the wider community.
“DC Laura Carter worked tirelessly to link the offences and identify Jackson as a suspect, meticulously piecing together the evidence to secure charges against him.
“We welcome a custodial sentence and hope this serves as a firm reminder of how seriously we take acquisitive crime.”
