Proud ex-owner pays 1964 Singer Gazelle a birthday visit

Coventry Editorial 3rd Oct, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

THE FORMER owner of a star vehicle at Coventry Transport Museum paid the city a visit to wish her faithful friend a happy 50th birthday.

Dr Cynthia Powell was the proud driver of the 1964 Coventry-built Singer Gazelle – which she affectionately calls the ‘classy lady’ – for many years before donating it to the museum in 2003.

And on Monday (September 29) she travelled from her home in South Wales to see her old companion and present the museum with a cheque for £50, a pound for each year of the car’s life.

The ‘classy lady’ is now on permanent display in the Light Car Showroom in the Boomtown Gallery at Coventry Transport Museum.
