Public consultation for car charging points in Coventry closing soon

PLANS for a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Hub and drive-through facilities in Coventry are open to public consultation – but only for two more days.

Developer Redleaf has revealed the plans for the new facility at land fronting Jimmy Hill Way off the Rowley’s Green Roundabout, opposite Coventry Building Society Arena.

The plans include regenerating the former Rowley’s Green Working Men’s Club site to deliver an Electric Vehicle Charging Hub with up to 20 dedicated rapid charge bays and an associated drive-thru facility.

The proposals also include additional food and drink drive-through facilities with dedicated parking and internal seating, with discussions already advanced with national operators.

The regeneration of the site would create a mix of up to 140 new full and part-time jobs.

The scheme would also include access road improvements, including a new dedicated access for the neighbouring site and new landscaping across the site.

Redleaf already has an existing planning consent for a drive-through at the site, and the latest access designs are the same as those previously approved by the council.

Paul Bishton, founder of Redleaf, has owned the long-leasehold for a large part of the site since 2013.

He said: “We’ve been working on these plans since 2022 and I’m delighted to confirm our proposals have industry leading, internationally recognised EV and drive-thru operators waiting in the wings to commit, having already approved designs as future potential operators.

“We now look forward to submitting a planning application that seeks to provide an exciting, sustainable development, sensitive to local neighbours whilst serving the wider community and generating long-term income for the council to invest back into the public benefit.”
