THE FUNERAL of Queen Elizabeth II will be screened live in Coventry city centre on Monday for people to gather and pay their last respects.
A large screen will be set up in University Square between the Cathedral steps and Coventry University with live television coverage being shown between 10am and 2pm.
Some seating will be available but those attending will also be able to bring their own as well as food and drink.
The Cathedral ruins will also be open between 8am and 6pm for people to lay floral tributes and people will also be able to go into the Cathedral for reflection, prayer, and to sign the Books of Condolence.
The state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey at 11am, and a national two-minute silence will be held at midday.
There will be a private service with senior members of the Royal Family later that evening and the Queen will then be laid to rest at St. George’s Chapel, the resting place of her parents, her sister Princess Margaret and husband Prince Philip.
Coventry City Council leader Coun George Duggins said: “We know thousands in our city will be watching individually from their own homes, but others will want to come together as a city and a community, to share this historic moment with family, friends and neighbours and pay their respects to a beloved Sovereign.”
Lord Mayor Coun Kevin Maton added: “The Queen visited Coventry many times over the years, and she was always greeted warmly by the people of our city.
“Since her death, I know many have felt a great sense of loss which is why it is right we offer the opportunity for people to come together to mark this occasion.”
