A MAJOR recruitment drive has been launched at a Coventry sports and leisure provider where lifeguards and swimming instructors are needed.

Coventry Sports Foundation has issued a call for new recruits for the positions in its aquatics department, and is offering an added incentive.

The organisation, which manages Xcel Leisure Centre, the Alan Higgs Centre, and Centre AT7, is offering a limited number of free places on a lifeguard training course worth £210 per person.

Full and part time positions are available, along with lifeguard and recreational attendant modern apprenticeships.

Those who are interested in the swimming teacher roles must be STA Level 2/ASA Level 1 certified and aged at least 16.

Kath Healion, the foundation’s operations manager, said there are a variety of hours available and on opportunity to progress through the organisation.

She said: “These vacancies could appeal to a wide range of individuals.

“Because of the flexible nature of shifts, it could be ideal for university and college students who want to work in the sector.

“Lifeguard training courses take place throughout the year and all interested parties will have to take part in a swimming test before progressing further.”

Wendy Jackson, community development manager, said: “The safety of everyone who visits one of the foundation’s facilities is paramount to us.

“This is why we want to offer this incentive to find more lifeguards.

“Safety also extends to swimming teachers as well, as they give everyone skills to protect themselves in the water.”
