Redevelopment of seven acres of brownfield land to create 295 jobs

ANOTHER SEVEN acres of aerospace company Meggitt’s former Coventry site is set to be regenerated through a new £15million investment, creating 295 jobs.

The redevelopment is part of a second phase of the business park scheme and follows around £9million of investment just over 12 months ago to help transform five acres of the derelict site into Holbrook Business Park.

The business park is set to create around 200 jobs.

The site has stood mostly empty since Meggitt moved most of its operations and staff to new headquarters in nearby Ansty three years ago.

The business park investment is the latest to be made by the West Midlands Combined Authority as part of its brownfield regeneration scheme.

This ‘brownfield first’ policy aims to transform hundreds of acres of former industrial sites across the region by building affordable homes and modern spaces for job-creating businesses.

The second phase of this scheme will feature 14 urban logistics and light industrial units.

The new business park forms just one part of the 65-acre site, with planning permission already granted for 500 new homes on another section of land.

And Meggitt’s former company playing fields will be kept as a community open space, with another small plot retained by the firm as a carbon brake facility.

Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change, Coun Jim O’Boyle, added: “I’m really pleased there is set to be more local jobs created on this site.

“Having a job changes lives, so this is a welcome boost for the people living nearby and the wider city.

“The retention of accessible green space is also good news.”

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street added: “Despite the challenges of the last couple of years, we’ve continued to invest in the regeneration of brownfield land.

“It is these investments that are not only creating new jobs and energy efficient affordable homes and premises for local people and businesses, but also helping to protect our precious greenbelt.”
