STUDENTS at Coventry Colleges English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) were advised on how to kickstart their careers recently by an organisation supporting young refugees in the UK.
Refugee Education UK visited the college to offer advice to and answer questions from 60 students, who are all in their second or third year and will be aiming to start work or go into further education in the next 18 months.
The youngsters also took part in activities designed to support their progression into work.
They discussed topics including an overview of the British education system and its different stages and levels.
The students were also shown how to enrol and progress through college and how to get support.
Coventry College has nearly 200 ESOL youth students studying there from countries as diverse as Eritrea, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Romania and Ukraine.
The college’s ESOL youth curriculum lead Natalia Vadgama said the session proved useful for the students to practice their communication skills and learn more about the next steps they can take.
