Region's victims commissioner to step down

Coventry Editorial 27th May, 2023   0

THE COUNTRY’S first Victims’ Commissioner is set to step down.

Nicky Brennan has announced she will leave her post in the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) office as a consequence of her having been offered a new role in Birmingham City Council’s new look Cabinet.

Since May 2021 Ms Brennan has been responsible for acting as an advocate for victims and overseeing victims’ services in the region.

The PCC, Simon Foster, said: ““She has always cared passionately about people affected by crime, acting as an advocate for the rights and welfare of victims throughout the criminal justice system.

“Nicky’s dedication and enthusiasm has stood out as she spearheaded campaigns that called out domestic and online abuse, violence against women and fraud.

“Nicky has my best wishes for her new role in Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet.”

Ms Brennan, who will leave her post at the end of May, said: “Being the first Victims Commissioner for the West Midlands has been one the greatest honours of my life.

“I thank you for your support, guidance and kindness for the last two years.

“We have achieved many successes for the residents of the West Midlands, including increasing the support for domestic abuse victims and campaigning to put a stop to violence against women and girls.”
