COVENTRY is the fourth most affordable place in Britain to have a garden, according to new research from The Grass People.

The report found the average price of private outdoor space in Coventry is £398.46 per metre squared.

To conduct the research, The Grass People found out the average price of each property type for the 50 most populated UK cities before dividing it by the official ONS statistics for the average size of gardens for each region.

The average Coventry house price is £250,749.50, with the average for private outdoor spaces being 629metre squared.

Coventry finished behind Telford, which had the lowest average garden price at £375.97 per metre squared.

Kingston upon Hull (£379.25 per metre squared) and Sheffield (£392.72 per metre squared) finished second and third.

Chris McIlroy, a spokesperson for The Grass People said: “The research was surprising as the cost of gardens differs so much throughout the UK and even in the same city depending on the type of house you own.”
