CONSERVATIVE candidate Jackie Gardiner won the Sherbourne by-election yesterday as the Tories gained a seat on Coventry City Council.
Coun Gardiner won the seat with 1409 votes, 514 more than Labour candidate Des Arthur, who finished second.
There were 2754 votes in the by-election, with 51 per cent voting for Coun Gardiner.
Green Party candidate Bruce Tetlow finished third with 139 votes, with Jane Nellist of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition finishing fourth.
The Sherbourne by-election was called following the death of Labour Councillor Seamus Walsh in July.
