COVENTRY’S Ricoh Arena has been shortlisted in three categories at a national events award in London.

The UK Event Awards 2015 will take place tomorrow night (December 2) at the five-star Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel.

The Ricoh Arena has been shortlised for the Large Venue of the Year, Sports Event of the Year and the Educational Event of the Year.

The Ricoh is the only representative from the Midlands in the Large Venue of the Year award as it competes against the National Museum of Scotland, the SECC in Glasgow, the Hurlingham Club, the O2 and The Roof Gardens in London.

Wasps’ hugely-anticipated Midlands’ derby against Leicester Tigers has been nominated in the Sports Event of the Year category amongst other events including the Eurocup 2015 and the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.

Finally, the Land Rover 4×4 in Schools Technology Challenge is included in the Educational Event of the Year.

Andy Gibb, managing director of the Ricoh Arena, said it was a fantastic achievement for the venue to be nominated in three categories.

He added: “The UK Event Awards recognise the very best events, organisers and industry suppliers in the country.

“To be shortlisted in three categories highlights to the industry, to everyone attending the evening in London and our customers that we are among the very best in our sector.

“It shows that our events are creative and innovative which reflects extremely well on the high standard of our staff.

“We have been nominated in a wide range of categories which underlines the flexibility of our venue as a world-class destination for sport, business and entertainment.

“We are looking forward to the awards ceremony and we are flying the flag for the Midlands in all three sections which we are extremely proud of.”
