THE RICOH sign letters salvaged from what’s now the CBS Arena have been given a temporary home at Coventry University as an art installation.
The 1.5metre letters have been rearranged to spell CHOIR and will be illuminated in the university’s new Delia Derbyshire building until the end of January.
Alongside the illuminations, audio from the One Voice Choir will also be featured and students and staff have created fresh audio for the exhibit which the public can access on their phones via a QR code.
The CHOIR sign was previously exhibited during Coventry’s year as the City of Culture as part of the Random String Festival.
The exhibit faces Starley Gardens on the other side of Cox Street and looks towards Coventry Cathedral.
Project lead Craig Ashley said: “Displaying these iconic letters is a hugely exciting opportunity for us.
“The artwork fits in with the aims of the new Delia Derbyshire building to work across the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the piece really resonates with the Delia Derbyshire association, contributing to our civic role and how we work together to bring those creative skills to the space.
“It’s our first opportunity to speak to the city, and CHOIR will engage audiences outside the building, hopefully sparking their curiosity.”
