Search for missing Coventry teenager with special needs goes national

A search for a Coventry boy with special needs who has been missing for nearly 48 hours has gone national.

Joshua Worwood, 18, was expected back at his home in Wood End from Riverbank Academy, Princethorpe Way, Coventry, at 4.15pm on Monday (June 24).

But when he did not return his panic-stricken family launched a desperate appeal on social media which has since been shared thousands of times, drawing national attention.

A Facebook group with more than 5,000 members has been set up to share information leading to Josh’s safe return.

His family says his phone was last active in Barnet, London, at about 1.30am on Tuesday morning – and there have since been alleged sightings in the area.

There have also been sightings in a shopping centre and a pub in West Bromwich, Birmingham.

Mum of six Rachel Worwood said yesterday on Facebook: “Someone must have seen him.

“He has special needs which also affect his speech and he may be nervous on approach.

“He was last seen wearing black jeans, a white t-shirt and a green zip-up hoody. He also has a little blue and black lunchbox.”

Coventry Police re-issued its own appeal today after saying Joshua was seen on a bus going towards Birmingham on Monday.

Residents are now in the process of organising search parties in the Coventry area.

A police spokesperson said: “We’re growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

“Joshua – who is considered vulnerable – is known to use the bus network and was on the X1 service towards Birmingham around 5.30pm last night.

“He is described as white, five foot tall, with short brown hair.

“Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call 101.”
