A SHOPLIFTER who stole around £3,000 worth of chocolate in a spree of thefts in Coventry has been jailed.

Richard Lake, 35, was sentenced at Coventry Magistrates Court to 36 weeks in prison after he admitted 18 thefts from shops in Coventry.

Lake was arrested by officers from the city’s South North West sector, who identified him as responsible for thefts in September and October this year.

Lake would enter shops and take chocolate before leaving without paying. Police estimated the total value of the goods stolen to be more than £3,000.

Det Insp Andrew Mitcham from Coventry Local Policing Area said: “This is an excellent result which came off the back of some excellent local police work by my teams.

“All the neighbourhood teams on the South North West sector did an excellent job identifying Lake and securing charges against him.

“We know the stress and anxiety businesses feel when they are targeted by shoplifters and we are continuing to act decisively and arrest them wherever we find them.”
