Seven arrested following Sundays disorder in Coventry

Coventry Editorial 24th Aug, 2022   0

SEVEN people aged between 15 and 48 have been arrested on suspicion of affray and vehicle offences in connection with Sundays disorder in Coventry.

The arrests of people suspected of being involved have taken place throughout the day.

Sunday’s disorder saw disruption in parts of the city, with fireworks and other items thrown at police.

Those arrested remain in police custody for questioning, with three stolen bikes now recovered.

Police say the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to identify those involved, including reviewing CCTV, mobile phone and body cam footage and speaking to witnesses.

Detective Inspector Stew Lewis from Force CID, said: “There is absolutely no justification for this sort of behaviour.

“Intimidation and risking the lives of members of the public is just unacceptable.

“Anyone who takes part in this type of behaviour needs to understand that they risk being arrested, charged with criminal offences and could potentially be jailed.”

Police say they remain in the local area offering reassurance to the community and business owners and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

They can do so via Live Chat quoting log 1705 of 21 August or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
