SIX FIRE vehicles battled a massive building blaze in Coventry on Saturday.

The fire broke out shortly before 10.20pm in the building on Brownshill Green Road, Coundon, Coventry.

Five fire engines and two 4×4 brigade response vehicles initially attended, the first arriving within five minutes of the 999 call

The fire was in a derelict two-storey building, affecting the first-floor and roof space.

Firefighters were assisted by specialist technical rescue crews, drone operations and a hydraulic aerial platform in tackling the fire.

Brownshill Green Road was closed from Coundon Wedge Drive to Waste Lane whilst crews worked at the scene.

West Midands Fire Service said good progress was made extinguishing the blaze but some hotspots remained in one area of the building that was unsafe to enter due to structural concerns.

“We remained in attendance overnight and throughout Sunday to monitor hotspots.

“A revisit on Sunday evening confirmed no visual signs of smoke or fire on thermal imaging cameras.

“A full aerial inspection of the site will be carried out when safe wind speeds allow.”
