Severn Trent jumping for joy as frog ladders a great success at Coventry station

Coventry Editorial 26th Nov, 2022   0

SEVERN Trent teams have created a ladder for frogs to allow them to walk- or jump- out of a valve chamber at Coventry’s Allesley Oak Lane pumping station.

Semi-aquatic animals such as frogs can fall through floor grids into valve chambers, which are holes into the ground where Severn Trent has sewage pump valves.

The Severn Trent team researched ways they could help frogs when this happened, and staff have said it has been a ‘great success’ so far.

Francisco Verenciano, Operational Technician at Severn Trent said: “We’re really pleased that it’s worked, the ladder has been in for two weeks week at our Allesley Oak Lane site and we’ve been lucky enough to watch the frogs use the ladder – which was a great moment.”

The team are now looking at ways to help their four-legged friends in areas of their sites where ladders wouldn’t be as effective, such as introducing vertical netting.
