COVENTRY City Council released a video on its social media platforms on Wednesday February 28, showing the abuse endured by its frontline employees.
The footage captures an incident where two parking wardens faced both verbal abuse and physical assault from a member of the public.
The altercation unfolded as the two civil enforcement officers, carried out routine patrols along Victory Road, issuing tickets to vehicles in violation of parking regulations.
When discovering a ticket slapped onto his van, a member of the public verbally abused the officers which escalated to physical violence when he forcefully shoved one warden to the ground.
This incident was posted on the Council’s YouTube channel which was captured by the body cameras worn by all Civil Enforcement Officers in Coventry.
The release of this video coincides with the ongoing Council campaign titled ‘No Excuse for Abuse,’ designed to curb violence against staff members.
Coun Abdul Salam Khan, deputy leader of Coventry city council said: “Council staff work tirelessly to serve our city’s residents, and while their efforts are appreciated by most, the rising tide of abuse cannot be overlooked.”
“Instances of abuse against Council personnel will not be tolerated, and decisive legal action will be pursued.
“While we extend gratitude to the majority for their cooperation, the message to the abusive minority is clear: we will not hesitate to involve law enforcement and pursue prosecution to ensure the safety of our staff.”
