THE SIEGE in Coventry city centre where a man barricaded himself inside a 13th floor flat has been brought to a safe conclusion.

Police negotiators were at the scene talking to the man in his 50s who was on the balcony, leading to concerns for his welfare.

The man had initially barricaded himself in his flat in Pioneer House on Friday.

Yesterday afternoon, the man handed himself in and has been re-detained under the Mental Health Act.

Officers have confirmed no-one was harmed in the incident, which led to several residents from the same floor being temporarily relocated while the incident was on-going.

Supt Ronan Tyrer, of Coventry Police, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the local people affected by this for their patience, especially those who were temporarily relocated while we worked to bring about a safe conclusion.

“We want to reassure the community that investigations are being carried out and we are liaising with mental health services on this matter.”
