COVENTRIANS put their best foot forward as £1,850 was raised for local, national and global causes at Sikh Union Coventry’s annual charity walk.

The 36th annual event saw 96 people walk 15kilometres, starting and finishing at the Guru Nanak Prakash Gurdwara.

Coventry Lord Mayor Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi and club chairman Palvinder Chana cut the ribbon at the event.

Charity walkers stopped at Coventry Cathedral as well as gurdwaras, churches and mandirs on their journey.

Funds raised this year will support Sahara Coventry which operates out of the Methodist Central Hall and aims to improve the mental well-being of Asian elders and carers.

It will also support the Lord Mayor’s charities – Muscular Dystrophy Charity, the Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind, and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity – and cash will go to Sikh Union Local and several international projects.

Club spokesman Bali Panesar said: “We are delighted to have raised these funds to support our local groups and also Sikh Union projects.

“We like to thank all the walkers who took part and raised all these funds”.
