COVENTRY’S St Mary’s Guildhall has launched a community grants scheme to get the city involved in heritage activities to mark a year since it reopened.

The scheme will allow organisations to apply for grants of up to £8,000 to deliver projects ranging from exhibitions and performances to workshops and displays inspired by or hosted at the Guildhall.

The project aims to enrich Coventrians’ connections to the city and its history.

In total, £30,000 is available to deliver the projects, with grants split into two tiers.

Tier one grants of between £2,000 and £8,000 are available for larger projects while smaller events will be able to bid for between £250 and £1,999.

Applications for the first round of funding are open to bid for until September 15.

The 700-year-old venue reopened last summer after a £6million restoration.

Niamh Carton, St Mary’s Guildhall’s community engagement manager, said: “This grant has given us the ability to do some fantastic and exciting work in this first year, and we can’t wait to build on this over the next year.

“We are hoping we will get to see some exciting projects coming from this.

“There are so many innovative ways for communities in Coventry to engage with the Guildhall and its stories and we are so excited to see what ideas are presented.

“We want to keep telling our local stories for future generations.”
