Staff and children prepare for Glow in the Dark city walk

STAFF and children from a Coventry day nursery are already at the preparation stage ahead of this year’s Glow in City event in aid of Myton Hospice.

Tiny Teddies Day Nursery, which has sites in Allesley, Balsall Common, Chapelfields, Radford and Whitley, has 16 entrants for this year’s event – including family members of the infants involved.

The event, a five kilometre walk, jog, run or dance around Coventry after 7.30pm on Saturday (April 16), is taking place for just the second time and has already sold out.

The run will spark the start of the nursery’s 2016 ‘Good For You’ campaign, which is set to highlight the importance of healthy eating and exercise from a young age.

Children and staff have been getting physical during daily activities and talking about the importance of warming up, stretching and eating the right foods.

Margaret Prentice, nursery manager, said: “At all our nurseries the children learn about the importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through play.

“Our menu ensures children who attend a full day receive more than their recommended ‘5-a-day’ and physical play, whether outdoors or indoors.

“Choosing the ‘Glow in the Dark’ race is a great way to kick start our ‘Good For You’ campaign for 2016 and Myton Hospice is charity that has helped many family members of Tiny Teddies staff the families that use our services.

“We have lots more things planned for the upcoming months to show that exercise and healthy eating can be fun and how it is important children learn good habits from an early age.”
