A COVENTRY football pitch which has served the city for more than 10 years is to be upgraded.

The surface at the Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre will soon be a state-of-the-art, FA approved 3G outdoor pitch with floodlights and will be ready for opening in mid-April.

The work comes as part of the terms and conditions of the Football Foundation Grant that previously awarded to improve football and physical activity development in the area.

The re-surfacing of the pitch is being funded by Coventry City Council and will continue to support a number of football programmes, local clubs and local communities to take part in outdoor activity in the city.

Enabling active lives continues to be a priority in the city.

The upgraded facilities at Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre will help increase participation in sport.

A representative of CV Life, said: “Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre really does continue to get better and better.

“We are always looking at new ways to improve what the centre has to offer.

“We want to ensure all the facilities there are in line with those across the city and re-surfacing the pitch to create an updated 3G version is part of that.

“It’s great that Coventry City Council continues to invest in local sport facilities.

“With gyms re-opening soon, we look forward to adding this to the list of facilities available to improve the physical and mental health of Coventry residents.”

Moat House Leisure Centre already showcases state of the art TechnoGym Skill line ranges, Olympic standard equipment and new cardio machines for its members and customers.

Coun Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport at Coventry City Council, added the pitch upgrade was great news.

“The rest of the facilities are brilliant, so the pitch will sit really nicely amongst those.

“There have been a number of facility upgrades across the city in the recent months and years including the 50m swimming pool at The Alan Higgs Centre and the opening of The Wave waterpark.

“The centre is situated in an area with some of the largest health inequalities in the city, so it’s great we are giving the area the best facilities possible.

“We continue to develop the sport and physical activity offer for the residents of Coventry and ensure it is inclusive of all abilities and fitness levels.

“I look forward to seeing the pitch in its finished state and seeing it used by the people of Coventry.”
