Step in to the new year to raise funds for schools in Uganda

A CHILDREN’S charity based in Coventry is encouraging fundraisers to join its walking challenge this month for the new year.

Global Care, which supports disadvantaged children worldwide, has opened registrations for the ‘50 miles in 30 days’, challenge, where participants can donate £25, then count up 50 miles on a step-counter app.

The charity said: “Walk 50 miles during January 2020 and as well as getting fit, you can have fun taking part in weekly competitions with prizes, to keep you motivated.

“You can walk every day, just at weekends, or anything in between – just keep track of how far you’ve gone with a basic walking app. All funds raised go to support Global Care’s partner schools in Uganda.”

Global Care’s CEO John White says, “It’s not uncommon for children at our projects to walk many miles every day just to get to school. It’s one of the many barriers these vulnerable children have to overcome just to be able to receive an education. Walking throughout January in solidarity with these children will help us to raise valuable funds for our partner schools.

“£25 is a relatively small amount and yet, if enough people sign up, it will make a huge difference to the future of these children.”

The walking challenge will enable vulnerable children to have access to more learning materials, textbooks, pencils, or meals at school. Partner schools will each be given a grant from the profits, and can spend the money on resources or needs of their choice.
