A 19-YEAR-OLD car key burglar from Coventry has been jailed after a police forensics examiner detected his fingerprints at the crime scene.

Kane McTigue broke into a home in Hawkswood Drive, Coventry, and took keys to an Alfa Romeo on July 6 this year.

The owner was only alerted to the burglary when officers knocked on their door to say the vehicle had been discovered dumped in the early hours of July 7.

Police in the city discovered McTigue had entered the property via a rear window, with a forensic examiner finding three fingerprints on the frame which connected him to the scene.

McTigue went to ground but police say they acted on information and traced him to an address in the city in September where he was arrested.

The teenager, of Honeysuckle Drive, Bell Green, initially denied he was involved during his police interview.

But with the weight of evidence against him he pleaded guilty to burglary at court.

He was jailed for two years and five months at Leamington Justice Centre last week.
