A TEENAGER has been jailed for a random knife attack outside a Coventry ice cream parlour.

Shai Dilbert, of Victoria Street in Hillfields, was arrested following the incident on Sunday 16 July last year as a result of CCTV enquiries.

The 18-year-old man was found guilty by a jury at Warwick Crown court last Friday (19 January), of slashing a 17-year-old youth in the face outside Creams dessert lounge in Swanswell Street, Hillfields.

The teen was attacked after intervening in an unprovoked altercation that Dilbert was having with another teenager.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Dilbert was shouting in a threatening manner and opened his bag to reveal the handle of a knife.

“The 17-year-old was then slashed with the knife on his chin, leaving a 2cm slash wound.

“Dilbert showed no remorse and simply rode off on his bike.

“Although he did not require hospital treatment for the attack, he was left shocked and confused by the meaningless violence.

They say Dilbert was arrested a few days later after a foot chase during which he dropped the very knife used in the attack.

According to the police he had been recognised by two PCSOs in the area from CCTV footage.

Shai Dilbert has been jailed for five years for wounding, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class B drug.
