TESCO has donated 56,570 meals to Sky Blue Support to help Coventrians in need.
Sky Blue Support offers grocery and food parcels to those in need, alongside hosting weekly street feeds and events, with donations allowing them to help aid shelters, care homes, charities, schools and other community projects.
The community group has recently seen an increase in demand, and they have responded by providing house drop-offs and food donations to disadvantaged people and local charities.
The meals provided by the supermarket have equated to over 20,058kg worth of food waste being saved and 76,029kg of CO2 savings.
Sky Blue Support volunteer Mandy Burley said: “All food from Tesco helps immensely and goes directly from source to the service user through our amazing group of volunteers.
“These contributions are used for weekly events where volunteers serve hot and cold food and offer groceries to families and individuals in need. “
“We and many local charities are seeing an increase in service users week on week, so we sincerely thank all our amazing donators for their continued support, without which we would not be able to help those most in need.”
Tesco’s surplus food is redistributed to charities and community groups through the Community Food Connection scheme.
