Tesco stores ride together to support Blood Bikes festive hygiene poverty drive

STORES are revved up and ready to support Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes’ Festive Drive this winter to help those who can’t afford everyday hygiene products.

Tesco stores Coventry Crosspoint Extra, Coventry Arena, Warwick Superstore, Walsgrave Superstore and Solihull Extra have teamed up with the bike charity to raise funds and make life-enhancing donations.

This comes after the stores were originally approached by the charity to contribute essential toiletries to its Practical Presents appeal.

Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes is a volunteer-led charity that operates and delivers lifesaving services to hospitals within Warwickshire, Coventry and Birmingham.

Its Practical Presents, Festive Drive appeal aims to help tackle hygiene poverty throughout these areas by donating practical and essential items such as toiletries and feminine products to local schools, community centres and medical centres.

Helping address child and teen hygiene poverty during the festive holiday season, the Tesco stores have been raising funds and donations to help make a meaningful impact in the community this winter, thanks to the likes of tombola’s, in-store donation points and other charitable initiatives.

This month alone, the Coventry Crosspoint Extra store has raised £440 through a variety of tombola’s with the Warwick Superstore raising £589.

These combined efforts will help provide the hygiene poverty campaign with items such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, and deodorant.

Melissa Hazell, community champion for Tesco Crosspoint and Warwick, said: “We believe in the power of community, and our customers have shown tremendous generosity in supporting the Practical Presents, Festive Drive.”

Phil McCrae at Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes said: “We are delighted to have the support, energy and experience of a large and well respected supermarket chain.

“Tesco stores have once again shown their dedication to community projects by providing safe and secure drop off points for our Practical Presents Drive.”

In a unique twist, the culmination of the campaign will be marked by a convoy of blood bikes helping deliver the donated items to selected schools on December 16.
