A PERSISTENT shoplifter from Coventry is behind bars as part of on ongoing police crackdown on retail crime across the city.
Police were called after goods were stolen from a store in Humber Road, Lower Stoke, on July 25.
Ricky Sturges, 34, of Harefield Road, was identified as being responsible and he was arrested in relation to the theft.
Sturges was already on a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of shop thefts in Stoke and Wyken previously.
He admitted the recent theft and was jailed for four weeks at Coventry Magistrates Court on Saturday August 2.
Sturges was also told to serve the 12 weeks of his suspended sentence in prison – meaning he was jailed for four months in total.

“We’re taking preventative and enforcement action as part of #SaferStreetsSummer. This is a national initiative with a particular focus on anti-social behaviour, retail and street crime.”
