SIKH Union Coventry will be holding its annual free Vaisakhi Sports Festival next Sunday, April 30.

The event will take place from 10am at the War Memorial Park and will feature fun-filled games including football, tug-of-war, rounders and track events.

Guests can also enjoy several stalls selling goods including Indian snacks and kulfi ice cream.

There will also be arts and crafts, henna and floral art, book stands and a funfair.

And Coventry Lord Mayor Coun Kevin Maton will be in attendance to present trophies to the winners of the different sports.

Around 4,000 people are expected to attend from across the Midlands.

The event aims to share the rich Sikh culture with the wider community and to help further local cohesion and diversity.

And the city’s Gurdwaras will provide free food at the event which will be served throughout the day.

Club spokesman Bali Singh Panesar said: “This is a family fun day for all to enjoy and brings the whole community together on a common sports platform.

“The success of the event can be seen by the willingness of many people wanting to support us and most importantly by taking part.”
