CHEFS will be cooking up a feast at this year’s Vaisakhi Sports Day with an Asian-influenced cookery demonstration hosted by TV chef, Manju Malhi.

Tesco’s Coventry Arena store is working with the Sikh Union to deliver the event which will run on Sunday (April 30) at War Memorial Park in Coventry.

Manju will be taking centre stage whipping up a variety of Asian-inspired recipes – a mix of her own and some from Tesco’s real food website.

An award winning cook, Manju has written five published cookbooks and appeared on numerous cookery programmes, including Saturday Cooks, Saturday Kitchen and Paul Hollywood’s Pies and Puds.

Vaisakhi is the highlight of the Sikh year and invites Sikhs to celebrate their faith and identity.

The Sikh Union hosts the Vaisakhi Sports Day to mark the occasion and also raise money for charities it supports.

The Union expects to see nearly 10,000 visitors this year with participants from all over the Midlands.

Jamie Tonks, store manager at Tesco Coventry Arena, said: “We’re excited to be involved with the Vaisakhi Sports Day which has a long history in Coventry.

“Manju will be preparing some amazing recipes with flavours from around the world that will appeal to most palettes.

“It will also be a great opportunity to showcase our vast World Food range with all of the ingredients used in the recipes available for purchase instore.”

Sikh Union general secretary Harbans Gumman said: “This is a family fun day for all to enjoy and brings the whole community of Coventry together on a common sports platform.

“It’s free to enter and we urge everyone to come and take part.”
