Thousands of Jaguar Land Rover job losses expected today

Coventry Editorial 10th Jan, 2019   0

JAGUAR Land Rover is set to announce thousands of job losses today, according to the BBC.

It would be a major blow to Coventry, Solihull and the West Midlands, with tens of thousands of other jobs in the supply chain.

The announcement from the Coventry-based company is expected in a business report later today, the broadcaster reports.

It follows a year of job losses and business uncertainty at the luxury car-maker.

As we have reported, hundreds of jobs went at Solihull’s Lode Lane plant and at Castle Bromwich.

Around 1,000 workers also switched to a three-day week.

The volatility has been explained by the switch away from diesel and government taxes on the polluting fuel.

JLR chief executive Ralf Speth has also repeatedly warned of mass job losses resulting from a ‘no-deal’ Brexit.

The BBC reports up to 5,000 jobs could go – many in management and administration.
