Coventry Editorial 28th Jan, 2020   0

EMBROIDERERS in Solihull have stitched postcards to friends around the world.

The group, which meets at the Solihull Methodist Church Hall on Blossomfield Road, saw its latest challenge become a flood of fabric mementos.

Chair of the group Anne Thumpston said: “We have been busy stitching postcards to swap with like minded textile enthusiasts from around the UK. When the postcard challenge was posted on our social media, suddenly we started to receive messages from textile challengers from around the world. The project had gone global!

“Over the past year we have exchanged our handmade postcards with stitchers not only from all over the UK, but also with fellow enthusiasts from Canada, the USA, New Zealand, Australia and India. Members have been excited to receive cards from other stitchers, often accompanied by a note about the making or the maker. All have shown the wonderful diversity and pleasure of creative textiles.”

The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the evening 7.30 – 9.30, with a talk from a textile artist – sessions are open to all – £6 for non-members , £3.50 for members.
