Three convicted of Coventry man's murder in quiet Leamington street

GANG rivalry led to the death of a young dad after he was stabbed and beaten in a quiet residential Leamington street.

Carl Moorhouse from Coventry died following a brutal attack at the junction of Leam Terrace and Lower Leam Street around 10.30pm on May 28 in 2020.

The 34-year-old was found by police with a stab wound to his chest and he had also been badly beaten.

Three men from Birmingham were found guilty of his murder following a lengthy trial which started at Loughborough Crown Court back in November.

They were Reuben Nall, aged 27, of Rookery Road, Adam Padley also 27, of Mellis Grove, and Terry Nall, 31, of Regents Road.

All three were also convicted of conspiracy to commit GBH and robbery.

Callum Huburn, aged 30, of Park Road, Birmingham, and Emma Bennett, 35, of Wyken Court in Coventry, were both convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to commit GBH.

The police investigation determined that on the night the attackers had travelled together from Birmingham to Leamington.

Sentencing will take place on March 28.

The court heard that after arriving in Leamington shortly after 10pm on the night of the attack, they parked on Lower Leam Street close to where Carl had left his car.

As Carl walked towards his Ford Fiesta, he was attacked and stabbed on Lower Leam Street.

He eventually managed to escape his attackers and fled to a neighbouring property. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on May 29.

The attackers fled in the two vehicles they had arrived in. They also took Carl’s car, which was abandoned a few streets away.

An investigation established Carl’s death was the culmination of escalating violence and increasing hostilities between two rival gangs.

Following the conviction, Carl’s partner, Bianca, said: “Carl was an amazing partner and father. The children adored him as he did them. Our hearts will forever be broken, and we will miss him for eternity.”

Det Ch Insp Teresa McKenna paid tribute to witnesses.

She said: “This was a devastating incident of such violent intensity which would have been traumatising for those that witnessed it, and I would like to pay tribute to those witnesses who have helped with the investigation.

“The impact that Carl’s murder has had on his family, friends and loved ones is catastrophic. Our thoughts very much remain with Carl’s family and his partner who have shown so much resilience, determination and courage throughout the investigation and trial.

“Although nothing will bring Carl back, I hope today’s outcome will at least provide some comfort to them that those involved will now face justice for their actions.

“I’d also want to thank everyone who has worked so hard on this case, in order to seek justice for Carl.“
