Three large Coventry drug operations closed down

Coventry Editorial 31st May, 2023   0

THREE large Coventry drug operations have been closed down following complaints from residents.

Warrants were carried out against two properties on Longford Road and another on Lockhurst Lane after reports of anti-social behaviour and concerns over drug dealing.

Officers discovered two houses had been turned into large cannabis factories with rooms filled with plants.

Both houses also had dangerous and illegal electrical bypasses which were being used to steal large amounts of electricity to grow the plants.

Hundreds of plants were recovered from the Longford Road properties, while the other warrant revealed the Lockhurst Lane address was being used as a base for dealing Class A drugs.

West Midlands Police obtained closure orders on all three addresses from Coventry Magistrates Court last week, meaning they will now be closed for three months to protect the nearby communities.

Insp Dave Langston, from the gangs’ team, said: “This was an excellent piece of work from the officers involved, taking quick action to close down three significant drug operations.

“Closing properties down like this protects communities from the corrosive effects of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour, as well as protecting them from the risk of devastating fires caused by illegally bypassing the electricity.

“This can cause catastrophic house fires, particularly in terraced properties.”
