THE FESTIVE ice rink created in Coventry Cathedral Ruins has closed after the city was moved into Tier 4 Covid-19 restrictions.
The rink – created by Coventry City of Culture Trust in partnership with Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), Coventry Cathedral and with support from Coventry City Council – has been operating since December 4 in a Covid-secure way.
The move to Tier 4 will see the ice rink close, with the final session taking place at 9pm tonight (Wednesday, December 30).
Refunds will be issued to all of those who had booked for future sessions.
Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “We are saddened to close Coventry Glides but, with the city moving into Tier 4, it is impossible for us to continue.
“The safety of our visitors must come first at this extremely difficult time.
“We were proud to work with our partners to open this new attraction in the city and to bring joy to everyone who experienced the magic of Coventry Glides in the Cathedral Ruins.
“Over 15,000 visitors took to the ice, showing that together we can still make spectacular things happen in Coventry.”
