TWO LANES on the M6 between Junction 3 (Coventry) and Junction 2 (M69) will remain closed for most of the day because of a severe lorry fire in the early hours of this morning.
Drivers using the area are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys.
Extensive work will be carried out tonight to repair the stretch of road when traffic levels are lower.
According to National Highways, the lorry, which caught fire, was carrying building supplies coated in bitumen which increased the intensity of the fire and the time it took to extinguish it, meaning there was more damage to the carriageway than a ‘standard fire’.
The fire was reported on the M6 shortly after 1am this morning which resulted in the southbound carriageway being temporarily closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three engines and a water carrier to deal with the blaze.
