TRIBUTES have been paid to ‘loving and hardworking’ Joel Carreido, a Coventry hospital worker who was tragically killed after being struck by a car on Woodway Lane on Sunday morning (September 3.)

The 47-year-old was confirmed dead shortly after the collision, while a 44-year-old pedestrian also died after being hit on Gosford Street.

Police are in the process of contacting his next of kin.

Joel joined University Hospital, Coventry in 2017, working on Ward 40 (Care of the Elderly) before moving to Ward 32 (Gastroenterology) a few months ago.

His family said Joel was a loving husband and father of two, who worked extremely hard as a healthcare assistant.

They added he would be missed dearly by all who knew him and thanked the community for their continued support during this very difficult time.

Prof Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust said: “Everyone at the Trust is shocked and saddened by this tragic news.

“Joel’s passion for caring for others shone through in everything he did and he left a lasting impression on the patients and families he came into contact with.

“While his work was a huge source of pride, it was evident to everyone who knew Joel that the role he enjoyed the most was being a loving husband and a father to his two cherished children.

“Joel will be sorely missed by us all and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.”

Police have detained a 33-year-old man on Beckbury Road on suspicion of murder and he has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Another person who was struck on Gosford Street has been treated for injuries which are not life-threatening.

Coventry Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened.

The force added from the information it has, the incident was not being treated as terror-related.

Gosford Street, Woodway Lane and surrounding roads were closed, some for ‘a considerable amount of time’, following the collisions as police conducted their initial investigations.
