TWO PEOPLE have been arrested after a stabbing in Coventry city centre at 1am this morning (Friday).

Police were called to disorder in The Burges and found the 40-year-old with knife wounds. He was taken to hospital and, as his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, he has been discharged to recover at home.

A 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of assault and will be questioned in due course.

The police investigation is currently ongoing with officers reviewing CCTV and making enquiries in the local area.

Det Sgt Aman Hundal, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “We understand that the local community and people living in Coventry are very worried and concerned, especially as this incident took place just a few hours after a 29-year-old man was stabbed on New Union Street.

“I’d like to reassure them that we’re doing all we can to find those responsible, and three people are already in police custody in connection with the two incidents.

“The attacks are being treated as isolated incidents, and although there is no threat to the wider public our neighbourhood officers are out conducting reassurance patrols and speaking to people in the local area to offer advice and support.”

Anyone with information should submit it at west-midlands.police.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
