TWO DOGS were shot dead by armed officers after posing a threat to the police and members of the public.

Officers arrived at the property in Harnall Lane East, Hillfields, to carry out a routine warrant at 4.30am on Thursday (September 1) morning.

On arrival, a pair of Pit Bull dogs were found acting aggressively.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “It was felt the dogs posed a genuine danger to officers, with the potential to seriously injure someone.

“Specialists from our dog unit attempted to secure them but it wasn’t possible to get close enough without putting police or the wider public at risk, so both were shot dead by armed officers.”

Adam Bickley, 24, has since been charged with possession of a firearm, possession of cannabis and possession of a fighting dog.

He will appear before Coventry magistrates today (September 2).
